Carousel app slides into maintenance mode

The Carousel app by Accelerator 365 has been one of the oldest and most widely used tools in our product catalogue. It gives content editors the flexibility to showcase your intranet SharePoint content with an intuitive and dynamic display.

With the introduction of a fresh, modern carousel layout in the native SharePoint Hero web part it is, however, unfortunately time for us to retire our beloved Carousel app.

Why are we making this change?

At Accelerator 365, our mission is to help you create a beautiful and engaging SharePoint intranet experience. We do this by filling the gaps in SharePoint with our apps - but we deliberately do not compete with the out of the box tools. We believe in working with SharePoint, not against it.

That’s why, when great new features like the carousel layout in the Hero web part come along, we don’t hesitate to recommend them. As part of our Microsoft-first approach, we always encourage using native functionality where it makes sense because, ultimately, our goal is to help you get the most from SharePoint.

Why we think you’ll love the new Hero web part?

If you’re wondering what makes the new Hero carousel layout so special, here are some of the standout benefits that caught our eye (and hopefully yours too!):

    1. Dynamic content display: Showcase up to five slides with customisable background media, headlines, and detailed descriptions.
    2. Stunning visual styles: Choose from three fresh styles (Image Overlay, Text Block, Diagonal Split) for a modern, visually diverse experience.
    3. Seamless layout switching: Alongside the new Carousel layout, you can still use the familiar Tiles and Layers layouts.
    4. Enhanced engagement: Enjoy smooth auto-play transitions with options to pause or disable for optimal user interaction.

The new carousel layout in the Hero web part is now generally available.

What do I need to do?

This month, the Carousel app will transition to a maintenance-only model meaning any further updates will be strictly ad-hoc and focused solely on fixing defects rather than adding new features.

If you’re currently using the Carousel app, don’t worry - your existing implementations will continue to work just as they always have.

However, we strongly recommend customers phase out the use of Carousel and switch to the built-in Hero web part to ensure you’re getting the best functionality and future-proofing your intranet.
