Organizations running a SharePoint intranet alongside Viva Engage have long had a quiet argument about where news belongs. SharePoint gives you the layout control and the confidence of a permanent page, but conversations tends to happen wherever people already spend their day.
SharePoint News and Viva Engage cross-posting closes that gap. Rolling out worldwide from late September through late October 2026 (Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 568074), it lets an author publish once in SharePoint, distribute the post to a Viva Engage storyline or community, and keep comments from both places in one thread.

What is SharePoint News and Viva Engage cross-posting?
Cross-posting lets a news author distribute a published SharePoint news post to a Viva Engage storyline or community, keeping the post’s full SharePoint rendering and merging comments and reactions from both surfaces into one conversation.
What lands in Engage is not a screenshot or a simplified copy: sections, images, buttons, links and custom SPFx web parts stay intact, and the post renders the same way across SharePoint, Engage, Outlook, Teams and mobile.
The biggest visible change is the comments. Once a post is distributed, the SharePoint comments module is replaced by the Engage conversation module, so intranet readers and Engage readers share one thread instead of two separate ones.
No license required
The great news is that cross-posting is available to anyone with a Microsoft 365 license. Without a Viva Communities and Communications license the entry point is Promote rather than Amplify, but the steps are identical.
What it means for Accelerator 365 customers
The implementation of SharePoint news in Viva Engage includes custom SPFx components, meaning that pages built with third-party web parts are not left behind.
