My Contacts: A smarter way to connect in SharePoint

That’s why we built My Contacts - a new Accelerator 365 web part designed to bring the most important people directly to your SharePoint intranet, where collaboration starts.

Why we built My Contacts

Modern collaboration depends on speed. Whether you’re reaching out to a teammate, checking reporting lines, or starting a quick Teams chat, people need fast, reliable access to colleagues.

We saw a clear gap in how this works on many SharePoint intranets. Traditional people directories support browsing, but they’re not optimised for everyday action. At the same time, finding colleagues across Microsoft 365 can feel fragmented.

My Contacts removes that friction by making the most relevant people instantly accessible from the intranet homepage.

By combining Microsoft 365 collaboration signals with organisational data from Entra ID, My Contacts surfaces the colleagues users work with most, shows your manager and peers for context, and enables fast, focused search across the organization. The result is a practical starting point for everyday communication.

What My Contacts does

My Contacts is designed as a complementary web part to the People Directory, bringing the most common, action-driven people tasks directly onto the SharePoint intranet.

Placed on a homepage or key landing page, My Contacts helps users:

  • Instantly access the people they interact with most
  • Understand team structure at a glance by seeing my manager and peers
  • Quickly find the right colleague using people search
  • Launch common actions - chat, call, email - all from one place

For editors, My Contacts offers flexibility without complexity. Contact cards can be adjusted in size, layout, and displayed attributes, ensuring the web part fits naturally into the overall intranet design.

Changes to People Directory

For users of People Directory, especially the Recommended for current user source, we recommend switching to My Contacts for everyday, action-focused tasks like messaging, calling, or emailing colleagues.

People Directory will soon be evolving to focus on structured information, advanced search, and filtering, making it the destination point for in-depth people discovery. More details on these updates are coming soon, so keep an eye out!
